“Somebody had to say f*ck it… those two words are very important, f*ck it,” is a quote from Robert Glasper in an interview with Hard Knock TV. Though he was talking about music, I think those words are important for life.
Back in March I went out of the country for the first time, all because my friend and I said, “f*ck it, let’s go.” We were hanging out in Atlanta for New Years Eve, and we started talking about our friend who was doing study abroad in Galway, Ireland. She had invited us separately to come visit and we didn’t know it, so when we told each other, we started to think about the possibility of going.
My friend said, “you got a passport?” I said yes because I got mine back when I went on a cruise. He said, “I got mine too… you trying to go?” I said, “f*ck it, let’s go,” and he said, “f*ck it then let’s plan it and go,” and that’s exactly what we did.
We were talking about it recently and out of all of our family and friends maybe 5% have been out of the country, so going to Ireland was something that never even crossed my mind as a possibility. We literally just said “f*ck it,” and planned a trip to Ireland and went, which was one of the best decisions we ever made.
Even though the weather was dreary and cold the entire time, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The thing that was most interesting to me, was the fact that our group of five accounted for half of the black people we saw during the entire trip, but the people didn’t make us feel awkward. The reception, and sometimes fascination, of us was very settling and we could just have a good time as people that just so happen to be black.
If we would have never said “f*ck it,” we would have never had that experience and wanting to plan more trips to Europe and other places. So, my advice to you is to say, “f*ck it” sometimes. Just because something is not normal for the people around you, doesn’t mean you should just stay in those lines. The box that people try to keep your mind in is not your box, so why stay in it? Burst out of that box and tell those people how and why you did it, but as always IDK THO.
